Description

In 1964 Dr. Martin Luther King said, "There is nothing new about poverty. What is new, however, is that we have the resources to get rid of it." Fifty-nine years later, Black–white family income disparities in the United States remain almost exactly what they were during the Civil Rights era. The unemployment rate for Black workers remains about twice what it is for white workers. Credit card use increased at an alarming rate at the close of 2022. Younger generations aren't saving "until things get better". Latinas make 53 cents to the dollar of white men. . . What are we doing wrong? And how can we fix it? Join us for a discussion about the 'forgotten message' of economic justice and closing the wealth gap once and for all. The book is available on the Hoopla app with a BiblioTech library card. It is encouraged that attendees read the book for a more robust discussion. Hosted by Rose Ávila, independent representative of Primerica. Rose Ávila grew up in San Antonio. Teen Mom dropout who never stopped dreaming. Joined the Navy Reserves at 29 years old and still serving today. Obtained a BA in Communication Studies in 2008 at Texas Lutheran University and a Master's in Human Services, specialization in Community and Social Services from Walden University in 2018. She has proudly served in many capacities in the city, state and nonprofit sector, but her proudest achievement is gaining investment licenses, representing less than 2% of securities-licensed individuals in the country-- reminding people of their dreams and teaching people 'how money works' to achieve those dreams and, ultimately, financial independence.
