Women’s January Month is an opportunity to recognize women’s contributions to history, society and culture. Quality of life should not be a concern. We deserve to be celebrated every day. Bring a friend and meet other wonderful women like yourself. In honor of Women's January Month we will be celebrating our Outstanding Women who are advocating for our community. Join us as we celebrate each other for a great cause. Together we are strong, we lift each other, we empower each other. We are so excited to be joined by our guest speaker Elisa Lara, host of Al Día con Elisa, Nurse at VNA Health Care, Board Member of the Elgin Hispanic Network, and so much more. Read her bio below to learn about our guest wonder woman! "Elisa Lara is a nurse for VNA Health Care for approximately 17 years. She has served as clinical coordinator, nurse outreach, assisted with COVID services at the VNA. Elisa obtained her Associates in Science and Arts at ECC, and also began her nursing career at ECC where she received her LPN (License Practical Nursing). She later attended Northern Illinois University where she earned her RN and BSN (Bachelor of Science in Nursing) degree. As a nurse she’s worked in several area hospitals, including Kishwaukee Community Hospital, Alexian Brothers, and St. Alexius. It was while working as a nurse in hospital settings that she came to realize the many needs within the Latino community, and she wanted to be a part of helping to meet those needs. For the past 17 years she’s been employed by VNA Health Care in their community health centers where she’s been able to both help meet those needs and advocate for the Latino community. Giving back to the community has always been a driving force in her life, now so more than ever. In addition to her work as a nurse, Elisa is currently involved with many organizations and events in Elgin. Host for Al Dia Con Elisa in the Elgin community, that has grown in the last 4 years. She on the board of the Elgin Hispanic Network , a City Community Relations Commissioner, on the Board for Latino Treatment Center, and contributes her time and energy to , the Coalition for a Safe and Healthy Elgin, a member of Knight Riderz Triathlete group. Some of her curricular activities are doing Triathlons, marathons, cycling, and dancing whenever possible."
