Join me at Encinitas House of Art in the cool beach town of Encinitas from 4:00pm-6:00pm on Sunday, February 19th for a creative experience learning the unique art of pressing seaweed. Learn about the amazing diversity of seaweed on our local Southern California beaches, get hands-on experience in the art of pressing seaweed, and take home a literal piece of the beach. We'll convene at the meeting spot for a short demonstration of various techniques for arranging and preparing pressed seaweed art, followed by lots of time for guests to make their own. Guests can expect to walk away with ~3-4 pieces and instructions on how to complete the pressing process at home. Group size is limited to 10, and times are scheduled to best align with low tide. While not required, there will be a short excursion to Swami's beach an hour before the start time. We won't be collecting from here (Swami's is part of a marine protected area) but we will check out seaweed in the wild and get a sense for what to look for when collecting.
