This is a special one day clinic designed just for the Little League Umpire! This clinic is open to all Little League participants who want to learn more about how to be the best Little League umpire they can be. Instruction will include what you need to know about the mechanics used on a 60 foot diamond in a 2 umpire system. The clinic instruction will cover theory and basic concepts of umpiring, positioning, making calls and proper signals. Mechanics used by both plate umpire and base umpire positions in making calls on plays on the bases will be covered.
In addition, students will learn how call strikes and balls with consistency from behind the plate. Students will receive basic plate mechanics instruction using the "Soft Toss" static teaching method. This approach is used by umpires at all levels to improve their plate mechanics.
This clinic is designed for all Umpires - new or experienced, youth or adult. Instruction will be tailored to your skills and needs. Those umpires with at least one season of experience will be able to build on their experience and improve. We want every participant to have a chance to be the best they can be for this season!
Instructors will be from the California District 4 Umpire Training Staff and other Western Region Little League instructors.
Students need to be prepared for active participation on a grass and dirt field. They should wear appropriate shoes (no metal cleats). Wearing your umpire uniform of shirt, pants and hat is encouraged. Wearing proper protective equipment for a plate umpire including mask, chest protector, leg guards is encouraged but not mandatory. Some loaner equipment will be available.
Lunch will be provided during the clinic session.
