Description
Did you know that Garudasana doesn't translate to "eagle pose," and Virabhadrasana doesn't translate to "warrior pose"? Instead, those poses (and many others!) are named directly after specific deities in the Hindu pantheon--such as the half-eagle demigod called Garuda, and Shiva's manifest warrior, Virabhadra. When you position your body into the asanas named after the gods, you're embodying the shape of divinity in their stories--from Hanuman leaping across the ocean in front splits pose, to the goddess Kali giving birth to the universe in goddess squat. Each pose becomes a reminder of the divinity within ourselves. In this workshop, you'll learn the many stories behind the pose names to deepen your practice. If you're a yoga teacher, you'll earn 7 hours of Yoga Alliance continuing education, as you learn to weave these stories into your classes as themes and intentions. WHAT'S INCLUDED: - A PDF course manual on yoga history with detailed stories of the gods and goddesses, the yoga poses named for them, and how to weave them into your classes (the same course manual we use during the 50hr Gods of Yoga course in Bali!) - An opening chai & Balinese blessing ceremony to purify for the sacred knowledge and get to know one another - Asana practice interwoven with stories of the gods - A deep-dive into the art, history, and stories of the deities to help you remember the Sanskrit names of poses and their deeper meaning - Included in the cost of this course is also our Ecstatic Sunday the following day (attendance optional), where you'll see firsthand how story and mantra can be woven into practice. Ecstatic Sunday is 3 hours of yoga, ecstatic dance, yoga nidra, and kirtan mantra chanting to apply the knowledge you learn on Saturday. **All are welcome to join, but if you're a yoga teacher, this workshop counts for 7 hours of Yoga Alliance continuing education credit if you join for both Saturday and Sunday.** --- Your host, Megan Mulrine, has lived in Bali, Indonesia, for the past 7 years, studying Hindu philosophy and the rituals and stories of the gods. She leads a 6-day version of this course with a Balinese priestess twice a year in the sacred mountains of Sidemen (www.yogatrotter.com/godsofyoga)
