The arts infuse every aspect of a Waldorf school. Students learn through the arts, teachers present content in artistic ways, and every student can become an artist and a musician. We will explore the reasons Waldorf schools have this unique emphasis, why the approach is fundamentally different from an arts curriculum in any other school, and how the Waldorf school's unique approach makes the learning more potent in both the academic and social realms.
Jason Child completed his master’s in music education in 1994 and has been teaching in schools ever since. He began as music director at the Emerson Waldorf School in Chapel Hill, NC in 2005, where he has taught 1st - 12th grade music, choruses, and bands. He has also served as college and faculty chair and coordinator for multiple accreditations.
Jason served for ten years on the Leadership Council of the Association of Waldorf Schools of North America (AWSNA), is a mentor, evaluator, and consultant in Waldorf schools throughout North America, began teaching in the AWSNA teacher training program in Cuernavaca, Mexico in 2017, was the keynote speaker for AWSNA’s Mexican schools seminar 2015-2017, and has presented numerous workshops within and outside of Waldorf circles. He is the father of four Waldorf students and loves exploring Waldorf pedagogy with seasoned experts and newcomers alike.
