In conjunction with a ribbon-cutting and public grand opening of our brand-new California Boys & Girls Club in West Louisville, this event celebrates participating candidates in the Youth of the Year program.
Please join us for this historic moment as we celebrate a new Club and our outstanding young people participating in the Youth of the Year program on Monday, February 20th from 5:30 – 7:00pm at the California Boys & Girls Club located on the 3rd floor of the St. Stephen’s Family Life Center.
Following the ribbon-cutting reception, 3 outstanding youth – one from Newburg, Shawnee, and Parkland – will present a speech they’ve written that shares their personal story and growth while at the Boys & Girls Clubs. A panel of community judges will announce the overall winner during this event, and that individual will represent our organization for a full year, give their speech at the upcoming Great Futures Sneaker Ball, receive a scholarship, and move on to the state competition in April.
Youth of the Year is a nationally-recognized program that has been fostering a new generation of leaders since 1947. Participants are involved in weekly sessions that teach public speaking, leadership skills, effective communication, and goal-setting which helps prepare teens for the Youth of the Year competition and adulthood.
Please join us for this significant moment in BGCK’s history as we celebrate a new Club and our hard-working teens in the Youth of the Year program. Contact Karen Tate at [email protected] with any questions about the event!
