Our MAIN parking area will be in front of the county's administration building located at 122 Turner High Circle. It's called the Turner Building and it is one block off Main Street. We are looking for the following: reenactors, volunteers, period vehicle owners, WWII artifact displays and WWII veterans and their families. PLEASE REGISTER ASAP BUT BY MAY 6 AT THE LATEST! This is a 2-day event starting on Friday, May 12th and Saturday, May 13, 2023. Friday will be for set up for the Main Event, however, some exhibitors will be set up for the school students from 9am to 1:30pm. List of Friday exhibitors is to be determined. Saturday will include speakers, maneuvers artifacts displays, homefront displays, a chaplain's exhibit, Camp Forrest display, military authors, veteran recognitions, period vehicles, live music and a street battle reenactment. A portion of Main Street will be closed to vehicle traffic starting at 4 pm on Friday and all day Saturday. The event will extend from the courthouse down to a period WWII encampment -- a short walk to a large open field and a large wooded area adjacent (under) the Cordell Hull Memorial Bridge. The town battle will be a recreation of the Red vs Blue Army training battles that happened in middle Tennessee from 1941-1944. There will be a practice battle late Friday afternoon. All reenactors are encouraged to attend to learn the basics of the WWII official umpire rules. This won’t be like any public battle you have attended before! Only USGI soldiers will be allowed to participate in the battle. Early and mid-war uniforms are acceptable, but individual units need to be dressed the same. Red and Blue armbands will be provided. Camping is allowed during this event for both Friday and Saturday night. The camp site is in the same area as the encampment - in the wooded area and in the open area adjacent/under the Cordell Hull Memorial Bridge. Campfires are allowed if fire conditions are acceptable. We are always looking for volunteers to help set up the battle, direct traffic, walk around in period clothing, move tables, help veterans, etc. WE NEED VOLUNTEERS!!! Check-in will be at the courthouse and you will be required to sign a waiver. Questions concerning the event should be sent to the founder of Smith County Historical Tourism Society - Tressa Bush - [email protected] Questions about the reenactment or encampment please contact Robert Nitsche [email protected] A Wilson County farmers takes time away from his work to chat with a tank driver during the Tennessee Maneuvers.
