The Spring weather in the Western North Carolina mountains tends to make for the best driving weather imaginable. Combine this with the wonderful roads and you have true driving bliss! Rock the Dragon is the largest annual meeting of Honda S2000 owners at the world-famous Tail of the Dragon. No worries if you don't have an S2000. Car and driving enthusiasts of all makes and models are welcome and encouraged to join! The event is free to attend, but we do ask that you sign up here to help us plan and so that we can e-mail you the itinerary. The itinerary will go out closer to the event. We also recommend that you visit the Dragon Events section of the forums on S2ki.com. There you will find active threads with updated information on different drives, events, and pinned information to help you plan your trip! We would also encourage you to join the Performance Car Syndicategroup on Facebook. The official drive sign-ups will be on the forum, but the Facebook group serves as a great place to discuss, post pictures, find some event info, and generally keep in touch. Event shirts and magnets will be available to display your enthusiasm to your friends! We will post more information about the design and how to purchase as the event draws closer. Most people will arrive on Thursday, but some of us who can't seem to get enough will arrive earlier. Once you've decided you're ready for the best weekend you've had in a long time, call 800-849-2258 to reach Fontana and reserve your room. Tell them you're there to Rock the Dragon and receive a discounted rate, which is good for Wednesday through Sunday. Be sure to reserve your room before they fill up! In the mountains, cell coverage is spotty at best. Therefore, we use 2-way radios to communicate. If you need help choosing a radio, plenty of information can be found in the Dragon Events section of the forums on S2ki.com. We keep them set to Channel 4.0 You will be able to find the most up-to-date drive info in the Dragon Events section of the forums on S2ki.com. Drive schedules may change as the event draws closer, but for the time being you can plan on: Thursday - May 11, 2023 Afternoon: Some sort of drive to somewhere for dinner with a return after dark. Usually Gatlinburg or Townsend. Meet up will be in front of the Wildwood Grill around 1 or 3 or so. Friday - May 12, 2023 8 am: Safety meeting in front of the Wildwood Grill followed by an introductory drive across the dragon. If you've never attended before, we ask that you join this drive to learn how to enjoy the mountains safely and learn proper mountain driving etiquette. 9:30 - 10 am: Line up for a group drive to either Franklin, NC or Helen, GA. Expect to get back to Fontana around 4-5 pm. Evening: Casual gathering at the Wildwood Grill in Fontana. If you're looking to wind down and hang out with your fellow drivers, this is a great night to do so! Saturday - May 13, 2023 8:45 am: Start lining up for the big rollout. 9:45 am: Driver's meeting 10 am: Rollout begins. This is where everyone at the event parades across the dragon in one big group. This is something you'll want to be a part of. 10:45 am: Group photo at the gravel lot. The time may not be exact, but this is also something you'll want to be a part of. The best way to ensure you don't miss it is participate in the rollout! After the photo: Groups will usually head in different directions with one goal in mind. Lunch! There will be at least one organized drive headed to Tellico Grains. After lunch, that group will cruise a mile in the air across the Cherohala Skyway with some amazing views! 6:30 pm: Meet up in the Carolina room in the Fontana Lodge for a BBQ buffet banquet! This is optional and costs $38 per person. This price includes the meal, tip, room rental, and enough amazing BBQ to hurt yourself. We'll say a few words to the group about the event, but we'll keep it short. The banquet serves as a great cap to the weekend and a great time to discuss your adventures. If you would like to participate, you will need to send $38 per person via PayPal to [email protected] and select "friends and family". We are not providing you with a good or a service, we are merely using the money to pay Fontana on behalf of the group. If you don't feel comfortable with this, we completely understand. Trusting strangers on the internet is risky these days. We will not betray your trust. If you choose to select "goods and services" then you will need to pay $39.14 per person to cover the PayPal fees. If you send $38 and select "goods and services", you will be refunded and not eligible to participate until you send the correct amount for your chosen method. Either way, please include a comment with your name and the number of people you are paying for. After the banquet: You're welcome to hang out in the lobby or go do your own thing. It is time to say goodbye to old friends and new. To cherish the memories made until we meet again. Sunday - May 14, 2023 Sadly, the event officially ends on Sunday. You're more than welcome to keep slaying the dragon or exploring the area. If you haven't tried it by this point, we suggest having breakfast at the Deal's Gap restaurant before you go.
