PALM SPRINGS, CA — Travelers passing through Palm Springs International Airport now have another way to help prevent the spread of the coronavirus.
COVID Clinic last week announced it is now offering 60 minute rapid-result coronavirus tests near the airport to allow passengers to identify their viral status before traveling or when returning home from a trip.
Those hoping to get tested must pay up front, but claims can be submitted to insurance companies for reimbursement, COVID Clinic said. Prices range from $145 to $475.
The testing site is located at 3400 E. Tahquitz Canyon Way in Palm Springs and is open from 6:30 a.m. to 8:45 p.m., seven days a week. Appointments are required and can be made on COVID Clinic's website. Same-day appointments could be available.
COVID Clinic founder and president Dr. Matthew Abinante said the clinic is one of the first testing sites to offer the Quidel Corporation Sofia SARS Antigen FIA coronavirus test, which is believed to have test has specificity of 99 percent and sensitivity of 96.7 percent.
"Many patients are concerned about their current health and whether they've been exposed, or currently experiencing symptoms, the 60-minute test gives them peace of mind quickly," Abinante said in a statement. "And some employers want fast testing results turnaround when someone might have inadvertently exposed other employees in the workplace. It helps companies make informed decisions about which actions to take to limit the spread of the infection"
The clinic also offers a combination test, which screens for both the COVID-19 and the common flu virus. Results from both are sent to the patient by phone and email within 60 minutes.
