PALM DESERT, CA — The City of Palm Desert is scheduled to set to work improving the east and west parking lots of Presidents Plaza this April, a project expected to be completed in November. According to a website dedicated to the project, the goal of the improvements is to repave and improve the parking lots, which are heavily aged. "Our project goal is to keep the community, patrons, employees and business owners informed throughout the life of the project," the project website states. The city has scheduled a community meeting to discuss the improvement project. The meeting will be held virtually on Zoom on Wednesday at 6 p.m. Those hoping to attend can use Zoom Meeting ID 856 0273 2271 and password 189384. Attendees can also call in by phone by dialing 1-669-900-9128 and using the meeting ID and password above. Questions can be submitted in writing to [email protected], and the city's project team will respond following the meeting, the city said. The project is envisioned to include improvements to the asphalt pavement, decorative pavers, trash enclosures with ADA ramps, new striped parking stalls, new landscaping and planters, improved walkways, parking canopies both with and without solar panels and tree walls. The project is afforded by city bonds and local funding, the city said. The project is estimated to cost approximately $7.8 million. Businesses in the plaza will remain open during the project, the city said.
