Green Hills, Ponds, & Newts Hike

11 March, 2023
Description
Starting fairly high up in Briones Regional Park, we will follow the Old Briones Road fire trail that leads to four different ponds. The lower two ponds should have easily seen populations of the smooth skinned California newt. We will take a look at these newts and briefly discuss their life history. We will then continue higher to see two more ponds and get good views of the east bay and delta from the higher elevations of Briones Regional Park. Be prepared for muddy trails, especially if there are recent rains. Be sure to bring plenty of water and a snack, and dress in layers. Sturdy shoes or hiking boots are recommended. Heavy rain cancels. There are restrooms (pit toilets) available at the staging area. Participants will also be required to accept our COVID-19 Protocol (available during registration). This hike is limited to 15 participants.
