Description
Volunteers are REQUIRED to register to assist with the 2023 Invitational FFA Career Development Event (CDE) as part of the College of Agriculture and Human Sciences’ Faculty, Staff, and Student Engagement Day on Thursday, February 16, 2023. Faculty, staff, and students are needed to support this event to assist in achieving the objectives. Volunteers are needed from 6:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. All CDE competitive events will run concurrently. The Vet Tech event will begin at 8:00 a.m., and all other events will start at 8:30 a.m. An awards ceremony will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. in the Carden-Waller Extension Program (CEP) Building Auditorium. Prior to the event, all volunteers MUST attend any ONE of the following orientation sessions: Wednesday, Feb. 1 at 5:00 p.m. 114 Agriculture & Business Bldg. Monday, Feb. 6 at 3:00 p.m. 114 Agriculture & Business Bldg. Volunteers must provide their signature after the orientation to certify their orientation attendance. Volunteer Registration will close Tuesday, January 31, 2023. Walk-on volunteers and those who have not attended an orientation session will not be allowed to serve as a volunteer and will not receive credit for volunteer service hours. Volunteers are needed in the following areas: 1. Registration: [6] Assist with participants’ sign-in and related activities. Provide directions to participants. 2. Logistics/Facilities: [10] Assist with ensuring that all logistical operations are conducted effectively and efficiently during the event. Troubleshoot issues that may arise in terms of logistics/facilities. Will be required to be mobile between various sites during the day. 3. Signage Crew: [2] Placement and removal of signage for the event and related activities 4. Food Service/Meals: [6] [full-time staff only]: Provide food service assistance during the CDE 5. Fiscal: [7] Ensure appropriate coordination of fiscal activities [full-time staff only] 6. Awards Ceremony Presentation: [6] Responsible for coordinating/distributing awards at the awards ceremony 7. Volunteers: [20] Available to provide assistance as needed for any areas that might need additional assistance during the day; serve as runners and provide special assistance for any last-minute tasks or unforeseen tasks to be handled; will be required to be mobile between various sites during the day 8. Staging and Set-up Crew: [15] Assist with setting up appropriate staging areas and placement of tables, chairs and other equipment/supplies as needed 9. Farm Business Management: [10] Assist with the proctoring and administration of FBM examination, which tests students’ skills in agricultural business related knowledge. 10. Public Speaking: [9] Assist with judging public speaking activities [9 staff only]; provide assistance during administration of the extemporaneous and prepared public speaking activities [8 students] 11. Plant ID: [20] Provide proctoring of students participating in the Plant ID event. Serve as guides to student participants as they visit the various stations in the event. 12. Floriculture: [20] Provide proctoring of students participating in the Floriculture event. Serve as guides to student participants as they visit the various stations in the event. 13. Land Evaluation: [5] Provide proctoring of students participating in the Land Evaluation event. Serve as guides/monitors to student participants as they visit the various stations in the event. This event requires students to be outside for an extended period of time. 14. Home Site Evaluation: [5] Provide proctoring of students participating in the Home Site Evaluation event. Serve as guides/monitors to student participants as they visit the various stations in the event. This event requires students to be outside for an extended period of time. 15. Vet Tech: [30] Provide proctoring of students participating in the Vet Tech event. Serve as guides to student participants as they visit the various stations and complete the activities in the event. 16. Poultry Evaluation: [20] Provide proctoring of students participating in the Poultry Evaluation event. Serve as guides to student participants as they visit the various stations and complete the activities in the event. 17. Entomology: [15] Provide proctoring of students participating in the Entomology event. Serve as guides to student participants as they visit the various stations and complete the activities in the event. 18. Milk Quality: [10] Provide proctoring of students participating in the Milk Quality event. Serve as guides to student participants as they visit the various stations and complete the activities in the event. 19. Evaluation Team: [7] Distribute and collect surveys from participants after each event. 20. Nursery Landscape: [15] Provide proctoring of students participating in the Nursery Landscape event. Serve as guides to student participants as they visit the various stations in the event. 21. Plant ID: [15] Provide proctoring of students participating in the Plant ID event. Serve as guides to student participants as they visit the various stations in the event. 22. Meats ID: [18] Provide proctoring of students participating in the Meat ID event. Serve as guides to student participants as they visit the various stations in the event. 23. Agronomy: [15] Provide proctoring of students participating in the Agronomy ID event. Serve as guides to student participants as they visit the various stations in the event. 24. Horse: [20] Provide proctoring of students participating in the Horse ID event. Serve as guides to student participants as they visit the various stations in the event. 25. Range ID: [15] Provide proctoring of students participating in the Range ID event. Serve as guides to student participants as they visit the various stations in the event.
