Salary/Rate Range: $13 - $18 hour Reports to: Paint Supervisor/Manager Supervisory Responsibility: No Schedule: M-F 5 AM-1:30 PM. Occasional evening/weekend work may be needed. Position Summary/Objective Automotive Paint Buffer is responsible for sanding and buffing units to a glossy shine after painting to correct paint imperfections for final delivery to the customer. Essential Functions: -Review Work Instructions. -Review that you have the materials needed from distribution to complete your task. -Clock in/out of the job you are working on each day. -Prepare the surface for buffing utilizing our sanding processes and techniques to remove scratches, runs, sags, trash, and any other defects from the module paint finish. -Remove and clean all compound/polish residue from buffed panels completely and inspect for acceptable finish quality. -Refinish panel(s) to Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) quality utilizing a rotary buffer, correct buffing technique, pads, compounds, and polishes. -Visibly demonstrate safety commitment by following all safety and health procedures and modeling the behaviors related to such. -Per the work instructions, complete tasks within established time goals. -Ensure that all tasks are signed off once complete. -Follow up with appropriate groups and managers when missing materials are identified. -Complete “Punch-List” items within 1 hour of being posted. -Attend all mandatory meetings. -Approve your time-sheet every Tuesday evening. -Any other duties assigned by the supervisor. Required Education and Experience: -High School Diploma or Equivalent. -Ability to understand verbal and written instructions. Preferred Education and Experience: -High School Diploma or Equivalent. -1-2 years of experience in the automotive paint industry or combined education and experience. Work may also involve working under the following conditions or exposures: -Exerting up to 80 lbs of force occasionally, and/or 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 25 lbs of force constantly to move objects. -Moderate heights to access materials and equipment. -Inclement weather conditions (wet and/or humid conditions, extreme cold/ heat) -Exposure to fumes, airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals -Moderate noise (i.e. shop floor with power tools and loud banging noises). -Work in a confined area. While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works in outside weather conditions. The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, hot or cold temperatures, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock and vibration.
