Description
Leadership Shawano County Class of 2023, the Shawano County Drug Treatment Court Program and the Northwoods Recovery Center are joining forces to help bring awareness and support for those living in and working towards Recovery from substances in the Greater Shawano & Menominee communities. Right now in our local communities, there are few recovery resources allowing for success in recovery. The stigma attached to those living in recovery has impacted the availability of resources in our area. Our goal is to educate our communities on addiction and the mental health concerns attached to addiction by raising awareness through this event; by promoting a large community presence in the downtown Shawano area in support of these individuals and celebrating their recovery journey efforts. By encouraging individuals' recovery efforts, it opens avenues for support to long-term recovery, strengthens families, improves workplace performance and retention, reduces domestic violence and child abuse situations, encourages a community with a reduced crime rates and reduced drug dependency numbers. These efforts combined create a safer community for us all. This event is not only for those in recovery and those struggling with addiction, but also incorporates those effected by addiction such as family and friends, as well as anyone in the community who would like to support the recovery community. Whether we realize it or not, every person has been effected by an addiction in some way. Please join us for a day of CELEBRATION and AWARENESS! Participate in any or all of the activities going on to celebrate and raise awareness! There will be family-friendly activities, live music, guest speakers, a Recovery Resource Fair, and a 1.25 mile Awareness Walk down Main Street in Shawano. There will also be a free meal for children.
