Show your LOVE for Mountain Lakes Park this Valentine's Day! Join the Friends of Princeton Open Space (FOPOS) for a volunteer stewardship session on Saturday, February 11th, 2023. This registration page is for the afternoon session, 1pm-3pm. During this session we will continue our work to beautify the driveway entrance of the preserve and will be removing invasive plants such as Japanese honeysuckle, bittersweet vine, and multiflora rose. Invasive species do not have the same checks and balances here that they do in their homerange, and can completely overtake a site. The dense cover formed by invasive plants prevents young tree saplings from being able to grow into future canopy trees and degrades habitat quality for wildlife. Help us free some trees! Join us out in the field to learn more. We will be using pruners, loppers, and hand saws to cut back invasive shrubs and vines. Volunteers will be guided on how to identify target invasive species and on tool safety. Once plants are cut, they will be piled along the edge of the driveway and cut into smaller pieces. If you have tools and can bring them along, please do! BYO: water bottle and work gloves. We recommend dressing in layers wearing long sleeves, long pants, and work boots/sneakers--this will best protect you from thorns, ticks, and poison ivy. We ask that if you are feeling sick, or have potentially been exposed to the COVID-19 virus, to please stay home and join us at another time. PLEASE COMPLETE THIS WAIVER FORM AND BRING IT WITH YOU.
