We’ll explore the wilder areas of Long Beach Island, New Jersey. Both ends of the island are set aside for conservation. One end is the Barnegat Lighthouse State Park, set alongside an ocean inlet and nestled in the dunes, the spot is teeming with winter waterfowl, occasional seals, and boasts the second tallest Lighthouse in the state at 163 feet. The other end of the island is the Holgate area of Edwin B. Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge and has beautiful ocean views, crashing waves, and, in recent winters, a snowy owl. The island also has quiet harbors full of fishing boats, sunset views over Barnegat Bay, and truly endless opportunities to photograph.The Barnegat Lighthouse is 163 feet tall and is surrounded by elements of the state park, including the jetty, bay, beach, trees, and atmosphere. It’s grand on foggy days and stunning blue ones. It offers a perfect focal point to work on composition both big and intimate. We will cover the elements of a strong landscape photo, as well as practice shooting around the lighthouse. The Barnegat Light inlet provides the perfect setting for practicing birds in flight. The birds are close, constantly flying around, and they’re fishing and chasing each other off — good shenanigans for photography. We will talk about settings, practice, light, and then we’ll do a lot of practice. The island has so much to explore, we won't have time for it all. Fishing coves, beaches, hundreds of brant geese in the bay, harlequin ducks with their bright plumage! It doesn't get any better!Cancellation PolicyI reserve the right to cancel if we don't meet our minimum signup requirement (2 people), for medical or family emergency, for unsafe travel conditions or dangerous weather. A full refund will be provided to you in the event of cancellation. There is a non-refundable deposit of $150 to secure your spot. If you should need to cancel, your deposit will be credited to a future workshop. The balance for the workshop is due three weeks before the workshop, on February 3, 2023. Cancellation after this date: I will refund 100% minus the refund if I can fill your space, 50% of the full balance minus the deposit if I cannot fill it.
