MANHATTAN BEACH, CA — The artistry captured in this shot caught the attention of Manhattan Beach Patch. The greenbelt, officially Veterans Parkway, often walked and run on by residents and others is captured in an esoteric way that brings its beauty to the fore and adds the surprise of fog amidst its age-old trees. Manhattan Beach resident Dominique Ridley used her creative eye to see it all before her and exquisitely get the shot. Ridley, who retired in 2012 from a 30-year career in aviation and was very active in the sales and purchasing of spare parts for commercial aircraft, was struck that day by the contrast of the fog and sunlight. Ever helpful, Ridley started her own small pet care/dog walking business in 2013 after volunteering at Best Friends Animal Society. The shot she captured stemmed from walking "a wonderful dog" who lives near 28th Street and Ardmore Avenue for over four years. Ridley has lived in Manhattan Beach since 1977 and purchased a condo in 1987. "The beach is my happy place but I am always shooting photos," she told Manhattan Beach Patch. She added, "I am a cancer survivor, having had 3/4 of my left lung removed a year ago. Good health enabled me to have a relatively rapid recovery. For my birthday, I sold many of my photos, done on canvas, to raise money for American Cancer Society. I continue to raise funds for them." If you have an awesome photo of nature, breathtaking scenery, kids caught being kids, a pet doing something funny or something unusual you happen to catch with your camera, we'd love to feature it on Patch. We're looking for high-resolution images that reflect the beauty and fun that is California, and that show off your unique talents. Send your photos to [email protected].
