Want to know why rents are so high? I rented a room to L. A. awhile back. When I asked her to leave because she had caused a backup in the washer/ bathtub drain line by not using a simple drain cover to keep hair out of the line, the craziness started. First, she stopped paying rent and lived here for three months before the court order ($110 later) made her leave. During those months she "took over" the entire upstairs of my house, saying I couldn't come up or use my front door as it was "her entrance", started smoking upstairs even tho she was a nonsmoker at time of the rental, slamming the front door (maybe trying to break the glass), leaving the front door open when going out in cold weather to start her car so cold air comes into my area (higher heating costs), several burn areas in carpet from cigarettes, I guess, wiping shoes off on upstairs carpet rather than door mats by door. Finally, when she left, I found she had wiped some kind of silicon stuff??? all over the refrigerator and bathroom mirror, had put some kind of green stuff in bathtub which seems to be not removeable, poured grease down the sink causing a stoppage and backup, my TV is missing as well as all my towels and washcloths, most of the silverware and doorknobs taken off the doors. This is why, don't know the repair/replace costs yet.
