Description

Since our first call to justice in 2014, MuslimARC has worked to research, convene, and organize to address the intersections of racism and anti-Muslim bias/Islamophobia. When the founders of MuslimARC saw a tendency within Muslim communities to accept the criminalization of Black people, we worked to counter those narratives through agitation and education. We are excited to offer new frameworks that help interrupt patterns of internalized racial inferiority or superiority in a racial regime where anti-Blackness is the fulcrum of white supremacy. In this two-hour interactive workshop, we will build upon Islam’s anti-racist ethos, and consider the 1400 years of Islamic history to root today’s work in the historical role of Black Muslims in the US and transnational movement. Join us to become inspired to a deeper commitment to center Black Muslims in our efforts towards addressing Islamophobia and racism. In this workshop participants will: Have a better understanding of the framework “anti-Blackness is the fulcrum of white supremacy” Explore the three foundational logics of white supremacy through historical text and present-day manifestationsMap out white dominant culture narratives and how they undermine solidarity Brainstorm action steps to address anti-Blackness and internalized racism to work towards collective liberationThe session will be avaiable in person or live on zoom. You can choose either option when purchasing a ticket. *No one turned away for lack of funds. Email [email protected] if you need a free ticket due to hardship. How to speak with your employer to request funds for this worksop: I would like to attend “Black Muslim History, Islamophobia, and Collective Liberation” a professional development workshop centered on racial equity on February 17. I would like to attend this event and count this time towards my professional development. I am seeking spaces where I can further my own understanding of the privilege I hold and ways I can support racial equity initiatives. I believe the knowledge and tools from this workshop will also be useful to the staff at the office and will be more than happy to share some takeaways from the session. In addition to the benefits this workshop will bring to my own development as a professional, it is also cost-effective. The workshop fee covers full access to the speakers, program and follow up resources. I believe it will be a good use of my professional development fund. Funds from the event will go to Muslim Anti-Racism Collaborative, an education organization working to address the intersections of Islamophobia, xenophobia, & systemic racism.
