Let's talk, connect, share and honor the gone and missing who are too often forgotten by law enforcement and media. Why? It is called a "silent epidemic" because of the disproportionate rates by which BIPOC—Black, Indigenous, and People of Color—women, and girls go missing and the disparate treatment their cases receive by law enforcement and media. A collaborative effort from grassroots Boston BIPOC women, Mics for Missing #micsforthemisssing aims to draw more attention to the hundreds of thousands of missing BIPOC women and girls throughout the U.S. The in-person event will be held in Boston on February 3rd, National Missing Persons Day. Brought to you by: Social Glue Media - Afrodesiacity - Social U Digital According to the FBI’s National Crime Information Center (NCIC) database, in 2020, 40% of all women and girls reported missing were people of color—100,000 out of 250,000 missing females—despite making up just 16% of the population. According to National Indigenous Women’s Resource Center, the homicide rate for Indigenous women and girls in the US is six times higher than it is for white women and girls with half of Indigenous homicide reports missing from FBI data. That’s why our group of grassroot Boston BIPOC women has come together to present a powerful Mics for the Missing and will be donating half of event proceeds to the Black and Missing Foundation. Missing BIPOC women and girls rarely receive the same amount of attention by law enforcement and media as white women and girls. We're breaking the silence. Can't make it to Mic for the Missing? You can still...
