Description

Offering DescriptionThe Black Teacher Project is dedicated to supporting Black teachers in creating communities of liberated learning. We believe that the wellness of Black teachers is an essential priority as we work collaboratively towards reimagining our school environments into places that enable students to manifest their full potentials. Now, more than ever, it is important to provide our teachers with practical tools, approaches, and support spaces that center our collective healing and humanity. As Black teachers and educators, our communities need our leadership, which requires us to be a demonstration of the wholeness that is ours by birthright. Our Black Teacher Wellness Retreat is a 2-day opportunity to be immersed in a cocoon of Black love where participants will reconnect to ancestral wisdom and their humanity as Black educators and leaders. By trying on mindsets and practices that cultivate and enrich their thriving inside and outside of schools, attendees will build capacity for continuing Black educators’ legacy of taking action towards a liberated future. Participants will: Share time and space for connection, collective healing, and community building with other Black educatorsEngage in wellness practices that support an embodiment of self-love, soulfulness, healing, and agencyExplore affirming approaches to health and well-being that are centered in Black identity developmentLearn about frameworks and tools that support practices for healing and thrivingExperience an increased sense of possibility, creativity, and agency to transcend constraints and limitations Deepen understanding about the relationship between adult wellness and teaching Who Should Attend: Individual Black educatorsCommunities or teams of Black educatorsDates and Times:Saturday, February 11th, 8:30am to 4:30pmSunday, February 12th, 8:30am to 4:30pm**Participants must be able to attend both days** Location:Waterfront Hotel: 10 Washington Street, Oakland, CA 94607 Travel & ParkingThe venue is about a 10 minute walk on Broadway toward Jack London Square where the hotel is located.Hotel offers valet parking.
