SAINT PAUL, MN — St. Paul homicide investigators are still trying to determine what led to a 3-year-old's death Sunday in the city's Dayton's Bluff neighborhood. It's the first homicide of 2021 in St. Paul.
Police responded to a home on the 1000 block of E. 3rd Street after a man called the police non-emergency number and hung up. Officers arrived around 2:30 a.m. and spoke to the father who called. He said his 3-year-old daughter was dead on the back porch, police said.
Paramedics responded and pronounced her dead. The mother and father were transported to headquarters to be interviewed by investigators. After being interviewed, they were booked into the Ramsey County Jail on suspicion of murder.
Five other children were in the home at the time, ranging from 9 months to 11 years old in age. They were all placed into the custody of Ramsey County Child Protection, according to a news release.
The department's Forensics Services Unit will process the scene to find physical evidence to help determine what happened. The Ramsey County Medical Examiner will rule on the child's cause of death.
