Blacksmithing Fundamentals Come learn the art of blacksmithing in a fun, enthusiastic, and inclusive environment! Pound out the stress of the year as you learn to properly swing a hammer, forge metal, and have fun shaping hot steel! Safe work habits and protective gear will be emphasized while making basic projects out of forged steel. Instruction will encompass the basics of blacksmithing including: tapering, twisting, bending, slitting, drifting and riveting. Students can expect to make focused objects as they learn important techniques that every smith uses when stepping up to the anvil. Classes are open to students of all skill levels and limited to 8 participants. We will provide everything you need to have an exciting experience in the forge. Expect to leave with basic forging skills and a new vocabulary needed to forge hot steel. No experience necessary, but we’re prepared to challenge you with new techniques if you know your way around an anvil.. Ages: 16+ ___________________________________________________________________________________________________ Coffee Scoop with Ryan WoodallThis course is designed to take a student with no prior experience and teach them how to create an object of both beauty and utility. In the creation of this coffee scoop, students will learn the basics of tapering, texturing, and dishing in addition to drilling and riveting. While this course is designed with beginners in mind, there are several decorative modifications that can be made to the basic design for returning students who are hoping to hone their artisan skills. Saturday, January 21, 10 am - 4 pm ___________________________________________________________________________________________________ Fire Poker with Ryan Woodall During this 6 hour workshop students will experience a great hands-on introduction to forging while creating their very own fire pokers. You will learn techniques including drawing out, bending, twisting, scrolling, and more to create a unique fire poker ready to take home with you. We will cover correct hammer technique and use of anvils, vises, and tongs. Come and spend a day making your own hand-made item tool you can use for years to come. Sunday January 22, 10 am - 4 pm___________________________________________________________________________________________________ Valentine Pendant with Ryan WoodallThis class offers a strong introduction to the craft of ornamental smithwork. During their time at the forge, students will create a decorative pendant designed to strung on a necklace. This course will focus on the techniques of tapering and scrolling, but will also provide an overview of proper hammer technique, forging posture, and the use of tongs. It is perfect as either and adventurous couple's date or to give an aspiring metalworker a handmade gift for that special someone. Beginners welcome! No experience required.
