The Marine Resources Council is pleased to present Part Two of our FAU Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute Miniseries, Seagrass and Seaweed in the Indian River Lagoon. We warmly welcome Rachel Brewton, HBOI-FAU Research Scientist, to host this Lunch & Learn Seminar. The Presentation Features How these plants tell us about the health of a marine ecosystem.What might be driving the change in abundance that has been observed in the IRL.This Seminar is an in-person event that will also be available live on Zoom. All attendees must register through the orange "Register" button. The Zoom Webinar access link will be shared with attendees through the registration confirmation email, under "Additional Information". This education series is made possible by charitable donations. Rachel has a B.S. in Environmental Science with a focus on Marine and Coastal Resource Management from Texas A&M University Corpus Christi (TAMU-CC) and a M.S in Coastal Sciences from the University of Southern Mississippi. She is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Geosciences at Florida Atlantic University (FAU) with a focus on Hydrology and Water Resources. She has worked in state regulatory positions at Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality and Florida Department of Environmental Protection, as well as academic positions at Auburn University, TAMU-CC, and Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute at FAU (present). She has expertise in water quality, harmful algal blooms, estuarine ecology, eutrophication, and marine fisheries. Her research currently focuses on seagrass loss, macroalgal blooms, estuarine food webs, and nutrient pollution. In her free time, she likes to mountain bike, paddle board, and go to the beach.
