GILROY, CA — A Gilroy RV park has been purchased by a company that plans to build tiny homes it hopes sell for less than $90,000 in a region experiencing a scarcity of affordable housing. Harmony Communities, which produces manufactured homes, paid $9 million through affiliates for The Garlic Farm RV Park, The Mercury News reports. The company said in a statement it plans to gradually convert the park's 158 spaces to "affordable, attractive tiny home lots," the report said. The average size of the homes will be around 400 square feet and will sell for a target price of $89,950 according to the report. Many will include lofts. "This conversion will bring the largest influx of affordable homes the area has seen in the last 20 years," Harmony Communities President and Founder Matthew Davies told the news outlet. The company is promising to install solar power that will cover the entire park's energy needs by the end of this year. Read more in The Mercury News
