About Venerable Jian Tan
Before becoming a monk, Ven. Jian Tan received a doctorate in electrical engineering from National Taiwan University. After graduation, he served at the Industrial Technology Research Institute for five years. Later, he ordained as a monk under the guidance of renowned Zen master, Ven. WeiChueh. After graduating from Chung Tai Buddhist Institute, he went to the United States to continue his studies, earning a master's degree in English teaching from San Jose State University.
He has served as the Director of Academics and the Vice Abbot at Chung Tai Chan Monastery. During this time, he often accompanied his teacher on overseas Dharma propagation trips and was responsible for hosting various groups from both domestic and foreign institutions in order to promote meditation and bring Buddhism into society.
Since 2012, Ven. Jian Tan has been the Abbot of Chung Tai Zen Center of Houston and Texas Pagoda Chan Monastery, where he teaches Chinese and English meditation classes and holds annual seven-day and three-day retreats and ceremonies to benefit others with the Dharma. Currently, he also manages the affairs of the newly constructed Great Dharma Chan Monastery in Denver.
Reminders:
a) Please bring your own meditation cushion, yoga mat, and bottled water. Food and drinks are not allowed.
b) Please check in 10-15 minutes early.
c) We will observe silence throughout the meditation sessions.
d) Face masks are recommended but not required.
