On the occasion of the International Holocaust Remembrance Day 2023, the Embassy of Italy and the Italian Cultural Institute invite you to the screening of Bocche Inutili (Useless Mouths), by Claudio Uberti. The screening will be introduced by Ambassador of Italy to the United States, Mariangela Zappia. The CEO of B'nai Brith International Daniel S. Mariaschin, Historian Anna Foa and film Director Claudio Uberti will share their remarks. Ester is a 40-year-old Italian Jewish woman who is left alone after her family is rounded up and taken away. She is sent to the Fossoli transit camp and forms a close friendship with Ada. She does not lose heart, not even when she is sent to Ravensbrück camp, avoiding the convoy that would have taken her to her death: Auschwitz. As the organization’s top executive officer, he directs and supervises B’nai B’rith programs, activities and staff around the world. He spent nearly all of his professional life working on behalf of Jewish organizations.Raised in Swanzey, New Hampshire, Mr. Mariaschin obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree in history from the University of New Hampshire and his master’s degree in Contemporary Jewish Studies from Brandeis University. He received an Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters from the University of New Hampshire and has also been honored with the American Jewish Communal Leadership Award from Brandeis University.ANNA FOAAnna Foa (Turin, 23 December 1944) is an Italian historian, author of numerous studies of cultural history of the early modern age and of works on the history of Jews in Europe and Italy. She has always been involved in the fields of memory, teaching history and raising awareness among the younger generations of historical knowledge of the facts concerning the Holocaust and the deportation to concentration and extermination camps.CLAUDIO UBERTIClaudio Uberti was born in Chiari in the province of Brescia, Italy on August 9, 1975. He has been working as a professional director since 1999 when he completed his artistic studies, acquiring extensive experience in cinema and television, especially after an illuminating enlightenment and extraordinary encounter with director Lina Wertmuller, with whom he shared many experiences in cinema, television and theatre. In the documentary genre he has directed numerous historical and cultural documentaries in many European countries and beyond, as well as a series of dramas for national and international television. He made his directorial debut in 2015 with the film Rosso Mille Miglia, with Martina Stella.
