The Fleet Shop Supervisor oversees, monitors, and coordinates the activities of the city's maintenance shop and parts personnel engaged in the maintenance, repair and warranty requirements of a wide range of vehicles and equipment in the Commerce City fleet. This position is also responsible for administration of the fleet management software system, completion of Fleet CRM's, monthly preventative maintenance list, and contributes to planning and reporting on division work plan activities. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Understands complex automotive systems including maintenance, vendor repairs, and warranties Understands and implements the monthly preventive maintenance needs of City fleet Monitors all work for employee safety to maintain compliance with worker compensation and safety policies Listens to customers and team members to identify maintenance/repair problems and issues; fully understands the problem before proceeding toward a solution Responds to customer complaints, inquiries and requests for service Schedules equipment maintenance, researches equipment history, and generates reports for fleet operations from fleet software Plans, schedules and directs equipment repair, maintenance, and modifications Schedules routine maintenance on a daily basis Understands fleet software management system including work orders, entering of new vehicles, decommissioning of aging vehicles and other related tasks. Implements policies and procedures using discretion and independent judgment Establishes training schedules for staff Assumes the responsibilities of the Fleet & Facilities Manager position in his absence Maintains a positive working relationship with vendors and subcontractors Maintain and document necessary repairs, warranties and inspections on shop equipment, lifts, fluid tanks, etc. Consults with the Fleet & Facilities Manager to resolve complex issues Assesses new methods and materials Conducts regular briefing meetings with Fleet Technicians Communicates with professionals, subordinates, and customers on all fleet topics All employees must model and demonstrate the City Values at all times during the course of employment; to include: Integrity, Collaboration, Innovation, Respect and Excellence. Performs other duties as assigned Essential Supervisory Duties Prepares timely performance evaluations that clearly define expectations Documents performance highlights and provides regular feedback to employees, coaches employees, assigns work, provides or coordinates team training and recommends employment actions such as hiring, termination, and salary changes Manages fleet and parts technicians including the selection process, training and development of the staff, performance appraisals, and provides input and recommendations for promotions, demotions, terminations and disciplinary actions Provides accurate feedback about the work producedAn image without description Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or GED and five or more years of experience servicing and repairing a variety of vehicles, including heavy and light equipment are required; Associate's degree with course work in Automotive Technology and heavy equipment repair preferred. At least 3 years supervisory or lead worker experience required. Any combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered. Must possess a valid CO driver's license with a Class B Commercial Driver's License preferred. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of industry trends and best practices within fleet management Expert knowledge of principles and practices of equipment maintenance, repair, rebuilds, and fabrication; understands technological language involved Strong knowledge of the workings of all City vehicles and equipment Strong knowledge of the Fleet Division requirements Solid knowledge of fleet operation administration and State and Federal regulations including emissions, alternative fuel, and safety regulations pertaining to City equipment Strong conflict resolution skills Good verbal and written communication skills Ability to supervise, train and evaluate assigned staff Ability to understand the technological language of fleet maintenance Ability to assist others in understanding and meeting established standards Ability to communicate with professionals, subordinates, and customers on all fleet topics Additional Working Conditions: May be exposed to work settings that vary in convenience and comfort Safety Sensitive: This position is subject to the city’s drug screening NOTE: This job description is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all responsibilities and qualifications.
