It's the Great Pumpkin Project is a friendly competition of youth in Randolph County, NC where youth will try to grow the largest pumpkin! Prizes will be awarded to the youth that grows the largest and best looking pumpkin, so bring your A-game!
To participate in this event you will need:
- Sunny Space to grow your Pumpkins (pumpkins require about 30 sq.ft per plant)
-Summer Long dedication to tending to your plants!
The registration fee is $20 for the project and includes pumpkin seeds, agricultural lime, fertilizer, and soil testing supplies. You will also be encouraged to attend the various pumpkin growing meetings with the County Agents. The list of important dates are listed below.

*Friday March 24th, 2023 – Deadline to pickup Pumpkin Growing Kits
**Thursday March 23rd, 2023 – Soil Sampling Demonstration
*Friday March 31st, 2023 – Deadline to Bring in Soil Samples to Extension Office
**Tuesday May 30th, 2023 – Pumpkin Pre-Plant Meeting w/Youth
Week of June 12th, 2023 – Ideal Planting Window!
**Tuesday August 8th, 2023 – Mid Season Check-in
Starting October 9th, 2023 – Harvesting Pumpkins (exact date may vary, drop of pumpkin entries at Extension Office October 9th – October 27th).
*Friday October 27th, 2023 – Pumpkins Entries Due!
Friday November 3rd, 2023 – Judging and Winners Announced
