Join the University of Nevada, Reno Extension Master Gardener Coordinator Rachel McClure for a special container gardening class for UNR students to grow and share cultural food experiences. This is a 3-part series for students. Food is culture, it is where we are from, who we are what we often love to share. If you are in a dorm or apartment you may not have the ability to garden. If this is you and you have a food culture story to share, be a part of the urban container gardening movement and learn how to container garden. Materials will be provided to help you with your container garden and give you the chance to tell your story with words that describe what you are growing, recipes that are meaningful to you, your culture or family significance, and share your personal relationship with cultural gardening.
The Wolf Pack Food Stories: From the Roots UP series is limited to 20 University of Nevada, Reno students, student ID will be required at the first class. Cost $25.00, materials provided. All classes are from 3 - 5 pm at the Valley Road Greenhouse Complex.
Part 1 (Feb 16th) Starting Seeds, when and how (students will start seeding their plant starts)
Part 2 (March 9th) Planting Containers, tips, techniques, and considerations (students will transplant into containers)
Part 3 (May 11th) Recipe and Food Sharing (students will take home their containers)
There will be an opportunity to share your container garden and food story this gardening season at the Rancho San Rafael Community Garden, maintained by the Washoe County Master Gardeners, to help the community learn how to implement cultural gardening and share their stories.
