Description
Our event will feature a “How-To” presentation on writing Letters to the Editor, contacting your elected representatives, and filing witness slips--all focused on increasing citizen power in shaping public policy. Attendees will be invited to practice these skills with directed activities. A “Powerful Women in History” Jeopardy game caps the evening. The presentation and activities will be led by Donna Limper, Issues and Advocacy Chair for the League of Women Voters of Roselle-Bloomingdale. Eating chocolate is a tradition at the League's annual Love Your League celebration because it represents the sweetness of civic engagement. This year’s chocolates are created by Happy by Chocolate located at 116 S Prospect Street in Roselle. The event will also include FREE chair massages for attendees provided by Jennifer Blose, Licensed Massage Therapist, from Purpose Therapeutic Massage located at 980 W Lake Street in Roselle. The chair massages are a new addition. Our League focuses on advocating for mental health as an integral part of healthcare in our community, and self-care, such as therapeutic massage, is a great example of an enjoyable way to do it. “We’re thrilled to be partnering with two women-owned businesses for this event,” said Roberta Borrino, President of the League of Women Voters of Roselle-Bloomingdale. “Our work requires a lot of heart, and we need to take care of ourselves in order to perform at our best. Enjoying a chocolate treat, having some fun and learning something new is all part of it. Members are encouraged to bring a friend, too, so we look forward to sharing our story with lots of new people.” Come learn how to amplify your political voice beyond voting and experience the importance of collective action to affect positive change. “The written word has a powerful effect,” said Ms. Limper, “many legislators believe constituent contact represents not only the position of the writer but also many other constituents who did not take the time to write.” Start the new year out right with a fun, informative, and inspiring evening about collective action topped off with chocolate and a chair massage courtesy of the League of Women Voters of Roselle-Bloomingdale! This event is free and open to the public.
