MOORESVILLE, NC — A Mooresville man is recovering from a severe stab wound after he was chased and attacked after he refused to let a man use his computer last week, the Iredell County Sheriff's Office said Monday. According to an ICSO account, deputies responded to Berracah Road Jan. 5 after receiving a 911 call placed by the stabbing victim, who identified Cody Lee Choate, 22, as his attacker. The victim told deputies that Choate attacked him after he asked to use the victim's computer, but he refused because he felt Choate was going to use it to buy drugs online. "The victim said Choate became angry, grabbed a knife then chased him down the road where he stabbed him. The victim was able to get away from Choate and call 911," ICSO said. By the time deputies arrived, however, Choate had fled the scene. Deputies obtained a felony arrest warrant for Choate, and he was arrested without incident Jan. 6 at his home on Brumley Road in Mooresville. Choate was charged with felony assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury. His secured bond was set at $250,000. ICSO said the incident remains under investigation and that additional charges may be forthcoming.
