Description
It's been 30 years...that's a really long time!!! In early May, we're planning a series of events to help bring the OHS class of '93 together. 4 events spanning 2 days, and something for everyone. We're going from the hall's of OHS to a historic Oakdale saloon, then following it up with a activities-filled day in the park, and ending with the main event - a social gathering at a local brewery. Find whatever fits your schedule and interests and come reunite with old classmates ( we really mean "old" too)...you might not even have your memory by the time our 40 year comes around...carpe diem (or YOLO! if you prefer)! Friday May 5, 2023Rally at the High School [530pm]We're getting older, let's face it. Luckily age is state of mind :) But memory is an interesting thing - sometimes they just fade away. According to Psychology Today, "Visiting places from earlier in our lives can retrieve memories that have not been recalled for many years. Such memories come back vividly and in detail." So here's what we're going to do - let's kick off the reunion by gathering at the old high school for a little bit of fun and a stroll down memory lane. We'll meet at The Slab, have a mini "rally" hosted by our Rally Commissioners (Jay/Dave), scroll the grounds and let the memories come rushing back to our nearly-fifty year old minds. Let's face it - if you can't remember the "union" in the first place, there isn't much point in a "reunion." Paint the Town Red (and Gold) at H-B [730pm]The Class of '93 was always bold and vocal. We weren't a passive group that fell under the radar...so here's what we're thinking. Remember how each class used to paint windows downtown for homecoming? Letting all passers-by know of their presence with a visual/artistic "hey, check us out!" We're going to do something similar. And because painting is very tiring work, we're going to stage our project from the H-B so that everyone can talk, laugh, drink, and paint (if you want too). The H-B has been nice enough to offer their private event room. Depending on how many people RSVP, we might get that room. Otherwise, plan to hang out in the bar and have a drink(s) with your classmates. There's food in the adjacent restaurant too, for those that need more than beer to keep the ol' metabolism functioning. While we're hanging out, those who choose (and hopefully have some creative vibes) can help leave our mark with a little bit of "class of 93 was here" style street art. Saturday May 6th, 2023Party in the Park [1130am]Nothing brings people together like a day outside in beautiful nature! Especially when there are things to do to keep people busy and having fun. We're reserving one of the group event facilities at Kerr Park and setting the Class of '93 up with some options for fun and bonding. As the Cowboy Capital of the World, horses are part of everyday life, so of course we need to have a horseshoe tournament! BYOH everybody! JK. For our creative classmates, there will be an art project hosted by local artist Cassidee Dermond (fees/rsvp required). With this event falling on the Cinco de Mayo weekend, we're going to celebrate with a taco-making "competition." We'll have a bbq set up, so calling all OHS Class of '93 chefs...Bring your cooking supplies and let's see who is crowned King/Queen of the TACO! Just kidding - every taco-maker is a winner in our eyes :) We'll likely add a few more activities to make sure everyone has something fun to do. The river is a short walk away for our outdoor/nature lovers. Who wants to go fishing?!!! Have ideas? let us know. The Main Event |Class Reunion at Dying Breed [530pm]This is the main event - the "official" class reunion. After a series of fun events to get the "reunited" vibes flowing, we're ready to get together at Dying Breed Brewing for an evening of good times, reminiscing about days of ol' while making new memories to carry into the future - just remember to take lots of pictures in case your old/overworked memory fails you as we all move through our 50s! (there - cats out of the bag - we said it - we're all turning 50 soon!!!). This event will be pretty casual - eat if you want (there is usually a food truck at Dying Breed), drink when you want, and enjoy the outdoor atmosphere and good live music. We will have a section roped off for our group so we can hang out together, and there will be a few fun surprises/activities as well. The party ends when you leave (or when the brewery closes down). Stay as long as you can - it will be another decade before we plan another reunion so have a good time, enjoy hanging out with your classmates, get the old memories churning, and rebuild the union we originally built as kids (yes, kids) at Oakdale High School.
