The Year to Save the Earth
Sunday, January 22 Service led by Jim Scott 10 AM or 11:30 AM
Join us for a special service, a multimedia, musical message from UU composer Jim Scott. This is the first performance, a pre-premier, of Jim’s “The Year to Save the Earth.” Powerful and poignant songs of Earth and Ecology are illustrated with beautiful and striking images on our big screen. There are many opportunities to sing along. Come celebrate Mother Earth, the challenges, and the hope for the future.
Jim has visited Sarasota a number of times in the past, and has performed at more than 700 UU Churches over nearly four decades. His songs, including the much loved “Gather the Spirit” are staples in our UU Hymnbooks. Former Co-chair of the UU Ministry for the Earth, Jim was one of the originators of the "Green Sanctuary" program. He was awarded a National Endowment for the Arts grant to develop and perform this new project and hopes to take “The Year to Save the Earth” on tour nationally this year.
As a member of the Paul Winter Consort, Jim was co-composer of their celebrated Missa Gaia/Earth Mass. He compiled and arranged the Earth and Spirit Songbook, a collection of over 100 songs of earth and peace and has gone on to create an extensive body of work including PBS soundtracks, award winning choral works and nine CDs of original music.
