The Social Justice + Media Symposium is an annual gathering for students, faculty, and stakeholders from across the country to explore how media practices and pedagogies can support equity, justice, and positive social change in daily life. Founded and coordinated by the Engagement Lab at Emerson College in Boston, MA, the 2023 Social Justice + Media Symposium will be hosted by Nevada State College and the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Taking place on March 31, 2023, this year’s Symposium will interrogate the concept of Spectacle, in the digital environments that drive our daily information routines, and in the physical environments of Las Vegas, where spectacle exists all around us. The symposium will explore the ideas of visibility and invisibility, of inequity and power, and of agency and voice, in the context of spectacle culture and its impact on civic and democratic futures.
