Description
Sea the Reef is a grant funded program and education initiative led by Lele Art Lab and Surf Skate Science. A free after-school program empowering Pompano Beach City teens via science discovery, ocean exploration and art. A free-six month program, with transportation included - providing teenagers with the opportunity to live the message of ocean conservation on the field as explorers and teen artists. What's included? On Thursdays: field trip sessions to NSU’s coral lab, on shore beach clean ups, a snorkel experience and many other marine learning experiences. On Fridays: inviting students to an indoor/outdoor design studio space. Students will cast silicone molds of different coral specimens, create artist statements and design 3D-printed corals. Resulting in a public art installation model of coral reef to share with the community. A graduation ceremony will invite the public to visit the space and celebrate the efforts of our teen environmental artists. Location: Pompano Beach Library Teen participants are all awarded explorer tools, outdoor gear and invited to use design studio equipment towards building their own art portfolio. Plus, at the end of the session there will be a merit based education - technology scholarship for selected participants. Join us for an information session! Open house launch on January 21stProgram dates are from February - June (World Reef Day Exhibit) About the educators: Surf Skate Science is led by educator duo Toni Frallicciardi, an ocean engineer and her husband Ulises Frallicciardi.
