Rose Hill Drive near charlton ave, Charlottesville VA
Description
I'd love to get together with local accordionists, fiddlers, mandolinists and other players of acoustic instruments for some rootsy/folky jams. I'm an early 40s, male Brit, and have been in the US for 14 years, the first 10 of which I lived in DC and played in a few loosely organized music troupes. I moved to Charlottesville shortly before the pandemic and have been out of circulation musically since then, but I'm looking to get back in the game, so to speak.
I have a fairly extensive repertoire of Anglo-Irish drinking tunes, sea shanties, pan-European folk songs, and roots/Americana numbers, and I pick up songs quickly (check out the SoundCloud of one of my former ensembles https://soundcloud.com/theshankpainters - I'm the male lead vocals). I'd also be interested in playing covers of more contemporary stuff but in a folky vein (e.g. Big Thief, Fleet Foxes, Sufjan Stevens). I don't write my own material, but I'd be happy to try out someone else's if it's in keeping with the vibe. I do have fairly diverse tastes outside of folk-adjacent genres (synthpop, dreampop, shoegaze, gothrock), but I'd like to keep the set-up simple and mostly unplugged. I also love singing harmonies and am as happy doing backing vocals as lead.
I'm a working professional and family man so can't commit a ton of time. Looking for casual jam sessions at first, but if things click, it would be good to work up to doing some low-key, low-stakes live performances somewhere. Do get in touch if this sounds like your jam.
