Suspect Sought In Upper East Side Attempted Subway Robbery

UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — Police are asking for help identifying a man accused of trying to steal another man's cellphone and assaulting him inside an Upper East Side subway station. Around 4:10 p.m. on Dec. 14, the 45-year-old male victim was sitting on a northbound Q train when the suspect grabbed his cellphone out of his hand as the train pulled into the 72nd Street–Second Avenue station, according to police. The suspect got off the train but the victim pursued him. On the platform, the two fought over the cellphone, and the suspect punched the victim multiple times in the face and chest before the victim managed to recover his phone, police said. The man fled the station north onto Second Avenue, police said. The victim sustained minor injuries and declined medical attention. Police described the male suspect as having a dark complexion and slim build, last seen wearing a blue face mask, a black Under Armour hooded sweatshirt, black pants and brown sneakers.
