Description

Milwaukee Reads and Boswell Book Company present a special evening featuring Julie Gerstenblatt, author of Daughters of Nantucket. This event will take place at Shully’s A.T.S. (Across the Street), 143 Green Bay Rd in Thiensville. Authentic and engaging, Gerstenblatt’s novel creates a vivid portrait of three women’s lives converging at a prime inflection point in the history of Nantucket, and the history of American commerce, civil rights, and social change. When a massive fire breaks out in the middle of a July night, the three women (a whaling captain’s wife, an astronomer-librarian, and a pregnant free Black woman) are brought together, and each is forced to reevaluate her priorities and answer the harrowing question: “What - and whom - would you save?” From Christina Baker Kline, author of The Orphan Train and The Exiles: "Julie Gerstenblatt brings a 19th-century New England coastal town to life in this dramatic, meticulously researched, beautifully paced novel. A moving story of hope, loss, perseverance, and survival." Julie Gerstenblatt holds a doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction from Teachers College, Columbia University. Her essays have appeared in The Huffington Post and Cognoscenti, among others. When not writing, Gerstenblatt is a college essay coach, as well as a producer and on-air host for A Mighty Blaze. Tickets cost $48 plus tax and ticket fee and include admission, a glass of wine, light appetizers, and a paperback copy of Daughters of Nantucket, to be picked up at the event. To avoid any missed communication, please make sure that Eventbrite is not blocked by your email system. And don't forget, all tickets are will call - you will not receive a physical ticket for this event.
