Umatter® Suicide Prevention AwarenessTraining of TrainersWhen prepared anyone can respond when someone needs help.Suicide is preventable and one of the first steps is to create awareness. Join us and become equipped to facilitate Umatter® Suicide Awareness workshops in your community or place of work. You will gain the skills, knowledge, confidence and materials to bring suicide prevention awareness to your community. You will help others identify signs and symptoms of suicide, risk and protective factors, when and how to refer for more help, and how to access resources. Webinar & Full Day In-person Training ComponentsRegistrants MUST Participate in BOTH Prerequisite: Awareness Webinar AttendancePrerequisite viewing of the 90-minute Umatter® Suicide Prevention Awareness and Practice Webinar. The webinar is part of the "Schools, Mental Health and Suicide Prevention" series and is titled "Suicidal Awareness in the School Setting (Gatekeeper Training)" in the series. A recording of the webinar is available HERE.Alternately, another suicide prevention Gatekeeper training, e.g., QPR, Connect, SafeTalk, etc., can meet this requirement.Register HERE Description: The goal of the Gatekeeper training is to increase knowledge, comfort, and skills to address suicide prevention within your role in your organization or community. Participants learn basic knowledge and skills of suicide prevention, including societal myths and attitudes, use of sensitive language, risk and protective factors, considerations for populations at risk, warning signs, what to say and do, and local and national resources for help. Participants use behavioral practice techniques to apply the three step process for talking with someone who is at suicidal risk. The training includes discussion of best practices for suicide prevention in school and/or community settings. A separate training provides opportunity for prevention and postvention protocol review and development. Objectives: • Know the basic information about suicide• Identify protective factors, risk factors, and warning signs• Learn the 3-step intervention process and practice it• Increase confidence and competence to respond• Understand your role in sucide prevention either in your school, organization or community This training addresses many state statutes related to suicide prevention including staff development for implementing Vermont’s Suicide Prevention Law- Act 114 “An act relating to teaching about the signs of and responses to depression and risk of suicide in public schools. If you have a code which provides registration free of charge under funding from VCPI, Please enter it at the time of registration. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- About the Trainers: Karen Carreira, MA, LMHC (she/her) Suicide Prevention and Umatter® Program Specialist Center for Health and Learning Karen brings over 20 years of human service experience to this training, working as an LMHC, Board Certified Music Therapist, and Program Director for service providers including inpatient, outpatient, partial hospital, residential, and post-secondary special education. Her skills and attitude support respect and equity and a dedication to superior standards for service delivery. In addition to Umatter Programs, Karen is a certified trainer in QPR, Mental Health First Aid, and AFSP's Talk Saves Lives. Sunny Naughton, (she/her) Communications Consultant and Umatter Trainer Center for Health and Learning Sunny Noelle Naughton is a nationally recognized entrepreneur and facilitator with over 20 years of experience in creative engagement, youth and family programming, and connecting the dots. Sunny comes from a background in human services, journalism, and the entertainment business, with a self-designed Media and Journalism Degree from Eugene Lang at The New School. In addition to working as a facilitator with CHL, Sunny holds a Masters's Degree in Leadership from Southern New Hampshire University and is pursuing a second master's in none clinical Psychology. Through lived experiences, Sunny has come to find her passion in helping people access what they need to live a content life. Who Should Attend?Community members, health care and school professionals who what to raise awareness about suicide prevention. You will be prepared to implement a Umatter Suicide Awareness Workshop. We recommend attending the training with someone from your area who can be your co-trainer. This training is co-sponsored by the Vermont Cooperative for Practice Improvement and Innovation.
