Description
Kicking off JaxbyJax's first curated monthly workshop, January's featured workshop leader is none other than the inimitable Barbara Colaciello! For over two decades, Babs has written, directed, produced, and performed socially engaged theater that contributes to vital conversations in the Jacksonville community. As Yellow House's Hope McNath says, "When I think about Barbara as an artist, I think about generosity." We at JaxbyJax recognize Barbara's contributions to sharing the narratives that shape our lives and are thankful for her influence. Through the practice of storytelling, Barbara engages performers and audiences in examining complex themes in much more nuanced ways than our local and national discourses often allow. In addition, Babs' brand of storytelling encompasses the vision of JaxbyJax in that every story, no matter the genre or the outlet, is a literary art and should be celebrated. During this Last Sunday Session, expect surprises, self-exploration, and engagement as we begin the 2023 JaxbyJax year with the literary art of oral storytelling. The Last Sunday Sessions are held at Cork Arts District, from 12-3 on the last Sunday of each month. Workshop genres include storytelling, memoir writing, screewriting, spoken word poetry, lyricim, songwriting, fiction, poetry, and playwriting. The workshop breakdown is: 12-1: The hosted genre workshop, given by a community leader with expert knowledge in the highlighted genre with learning focused on that genre. (Cork Classroom) 1-2: A writing circle based on the monthly genre, hosted by Erica Saffer to engage in the content of the workshop and express creative connections. 2-3: An open mic hour to share in our words, ideas, and creative efforts. Work can be produced in the workshop or pre-composed for sharing. Enter Cork Arts District on the Rosselle Street entrance. Parking in lot beside building or along street. Follow the posters to the entrance and the classroom.
