Be my guest to learn about injury prevention in female athletes from leading sports medicine experts.
My name is Kylie and I am the Captain of the Redondo Union High School Girls Lacrosse Team. I have been a Varsity starter since Freshman year and also play for Fire Club Lacrosse. In June 2022, I tore my ACL at a College Recruiting Event. As part of my Girl Scout Gold Award, I am hosting this seminar to spread awareness and education of ACL tears and what we can do to prevent them.
More than 100,000 ACL reconstructions are performed in the US each year. Injuries to the ACL has skyrocketed among 14-18 year olds, according to the American Academy of Pediatrics, and female adolescent athletes have the greatest risk with injury rates of 4-6 times higher than their male counterparts in similar sports. More so, studies have found that 1 in every 50 female high school athletes and 1 in 10 Division 1 college female athletes will tear an ACL.
Hear from Orthopaedic surgeon and team doctor to LA Angels and LA Black Storm, Dr. Carlos Uquillas MD and Primary Care Sports Medicine physician and team doctor to LA Galaxy and Angel City FC, Dr. Tracy Zaslow MD about the ACL and why injuries are increasing. Physical Therapists Adam Seson and Marta Katz will demonstrate proper prevention techniques.
