Educators will will support educators as they analyze, investigate and uncover ways to and take with them how Science, STEM, and Makerspace during this full day conference participants will: Part I Learn how the new fifth grade science assessment informs the teaching and learning of science in the elementary grades. Incorporate strategies to implement NYS Science Learning Standards.Take part in one of the NYS Science Investigations that parallel part of the 5th grade 2024 assessments as we conduct research in developing methods to integrate best CER practices. Discover how Claim Evidence and Reasoning, Cross Cutting Concepts, and Disciplinary Core Ideas can be utilized as tangible models to support our young scientists. Part II Take a journey in an elementary school’s Makerspace. Learn how to integrate STEM in a Makerspace setting, where NYSSLS and Next Gen Math Standards are realized. Focus on process rather than product and analyze how constructivist theory and guided inquiry based learning create passion and purpose in a Makerspace setting. Learn how to connect Makerspace station curricula and practices so that students think deeply about the big ideas as they encounter productive struggle through problem solving. Be provided with tangible Makerspace models used for grades K-6. Take away a working model to implement a sustainable Makerspace paradigm in your elementary school.
