The Greater Grand Rapids Women's History Council invites you to gather with us at 6:30 p.m. for a reception and light refreshments followed by a program, The Second Surge: Women Running for Public Office in the 1970s, featuring local historian Jo Ellyn Clarey.
Program Description
Suddenly, in the 1970s, Kent County women broke through barriers that had limited their runs for public office mostly to local school board races. They ran for virtually every position on local, county, and state levels, as well as for U.S. Congress. In 2022, women continued to make history as candidates for public office. Join us in celebrating women's pathway to success at the polls and the groundwork that has been laid for the future.
