Description

Renowned author of New York Times Bestseller “We Want To Do More Than Survive” and other publications, Dr. Love’s writing, research, teaching, and educational advocacy work meet at the intersection of disrupting education reform and strengthening education through abolitionist teaching, Black joy, and anti-racism. Currently the William F. Russell Professor at Teachers College, Columbia University, in 2016 Dr. Love was named the Nasir Jones Fellow at the Hutchins Center for African and African American Research at Harvard University. Dr. Love is a sought-after public speaker on a range of topics, including: abolitionist teaching, education reform, anti-racism, Hip Hop education, Black girlhood, queer youth, Hip Hop feminism, art-based education to foster youth civic engagement, and issues of diversity and inclusion. She has also been featured in various news outlets including NPR, PBS, Ed Week, and The Guardian. As part of its 50th anniversary in 2022, the Kennedy Center named Dr. Love one of the Next 50 Leaders who are making the world a more inspired, inclusive, and compassionate place. For our January 24th evening speaking event, Dr. Love will share and witness to the wisdom, power, and creativity learned in Black Freedom Struggles. This “moment” we are living in poses critical questions for our individual and collective liberation. Dr. Love will call us to widen our vision of hope and to invite generative disruption to the patterned ways of thinking and acting which block us from healing and freedom. Drawing on stories and strategies from pillars like bell hooks, Cornel West, Octavia Butler, Paolo Freire, James Baldwin, and Audre Lorde, Dr. Love will amplify and center pathways towards deeper racial integrity and community. **This event is open to all, but geared towards those in DEI(B)(J) circles, educators, criminal justice reformers, community organizers, trauma practitioners, and wellness & health advocates.
