Description
BACKGROUND In November, twelve creatives from different parts of the world gathered in Los Angeles to record a song titled Go Iran, Go Go, expressing solidarity with the Iranian Women’s revolution. This event has been created as part of a social justice campaign to amplify the movement. We invite you to share this event, the video, our call to actions, and become a part of this movement. EVENT DESCRIPTION This event will be an open mic hosted in an art gallery. The gallery will feature art that uplifts the important figures, prisoners, martyrs, protests, and themes of the revolution taking place in Iran. Art pieces will be on sale, with proceeds supporting collaborating organizations. Artists interested in submitted pieces can go here. After attendees had a chance to tour the gallery, they will be invited to join the event hosts in contributing to an altar built to honor the lives lost during the revolution. Collaborating organizations supporting Iranians' human rights will be in attendance, offering their platform and uplifting our calls to action for folks to support the movement. Finally, our event will end with featured performances and open mic performances where artists will share art, uplifting our event themes (see below). THEMES OF THE WORK Women. Life. Freedom: the slogan became popularised worldwide in response to the death of Mahsa Amini and the ensuing Iranian-nationwide uprising. The slogan grew globally as a symbol of protest, civil unrest, and uprising against the government of Iran's mandatory hijab law and Morality Police, calling for Women's rights and an end to the theocratic dictatorship Iran. These words embody Iran's first feminist uprising and revolution. Solidarity: awareness of shared interests, objectives, standards, and sympathies creating a psychological sense of unity of groups or classes. Rather than this being an event solely for Iranians we aim for a multicultural event with various groups and people coming together WITH Iranians. Revolution: What’s happening in Iran is an intersectional civil-rights revolution, led by women and girls to fight back against the theocratic, authoritarian regime, their gender-based discrimination, and state sanctioned violence. The people in Iran are fighting for a secular government, democracy, freedom of speech and press, and equality for all minorities subjugated by the Islamic Republic, including religious minorities, ethnic minorities (Kurds, Baluchis, and more), and LGBTQ people PROGRAM 5:00pm event begins; people walk around the art gallery 6:00pm altar building 6::30pm: group call to action 7:00pm featured performances 7:30pm: Open mic performances 9:00pm event ends
