Description
Looking to rehome our 1y 3m old, neutered, purebred, male sable German Shepherd. He absolutely needs to go to someone with experience and patience, to a household without children or ANY small animals (cats, smaller dogs, rabbits, etc). He has an extremely strong prey drive toward smaller animals (especially cats and rabbits). He has a skin allergy related to the local outdoor plants and pollen that causes him to lose patches of fur during the summer and autumn months, and must be treated with Apoquel. (He's basically allergic to Colorado.) He is absolutely terrified of everything and needs rigorous training. He has NEVER bitten or lashed out, but he will take off running (or try to) in fear of people, a knock on the door, or any unknown object (especially boxes and trashcans, both in the home or on a walk). We have no idea why, but must have had something to do with the breeders' original home. He also does not, at all, understand social cues from other dogs (to include the one he's lived with since being adopted), and will often incessantly bother them or try to play WAY too rough with them to the point of being attacked -- and then do it more, thinking it's playing. Completely housetrained, NEVER ONCE had an accident inside, even as a teeny tiny puppy. Not at all destructive, never once tried to chew on furniture or dig a hole or anything. He's an inside dog, only really goes outside to go to the bathroom and then wants right back in. Never ever gets on furniture (but would if you invited him). Understands the verbal commands "sit", "lie down", "gentle" (when taking a treat or toy), "come", "go", "easy" (to not pull on the leash), "get your toy/bring it here" (and some specific toy names), "load up" (get into the vehicle), "let go/drop it/leave it", and a few others. All bets are off if he sees a small animal, and he will completely ignore you to try and get it -- HOWEVER, this does not apply to walks, where he is completely oblivious to small dogs, squirrels, rabbits, cats, geese, etc. Seems to only apply to within the home/yard and vicinity. Lastly, he is UTD on all shots, monthly NexGard and Heartgard; free of fleas, worms, mange, and other diseases. His only issue is the hotspots of fur loss caused by seasonal allergies (as determined by an animal dermatology clinic). He is already microchipped, which will be transferred to you as the new owner. Originally acquired this puppy for 2k, now just trying to find him a better small-animal-free home. He is a very sweet and loving dog who would make a wonderful companion for someone willing to be patient with him, in a house with no children or small animals. He will come with all remaining food, food storage container with scoop, bowls, his toys, martingale collar, prong collar, retractable leash, short bungee leash, muzzle cage (he's never tried to bite anyone, but it's good to have on-hand for things like vet visits to put the vets at ease, or situations where he would be around small animals), hotspot spray for his itchy areas, and a crate if desired. Serious inquiries only, please. Yes, he has issues, which is why his rehoming is FREE.
