Please bring your own mat and water bottle. About Niyati: Niyati came to yoga with a desire to connect with its and her own South Asian roots. After struggling to meditate, she came to asana (postural practice) as a way to reach deeper layers of consciousness. Niyati completed her 200-hour yoga teacher training at JP Centre Yoga in Boston under the direction of Daniel Max, Alana Brennan, and Alex Bauermeister with focus on alignment, yoga philosophy and social justice. Through yoga teacher training, Niyati learned how focused meditation (dharana) on postures could translate to stillness and meditation (dhayna) as a daily practice. The South Asian co-trainees, mentors, and teachers in the training inspired Niyati to find her unique voice and platform as a yoga practitioner and teacher. As a teacher, Niyati invites her students to use yoga as a means to move inward through the sheaths of our being to our inner knowing. She incorporates alignment cues, yogic philosophy, and Sanskrit words into her classes as a way to reconcile yoga’s ancient tradition with the adapted Western practice. Ultimately, she wishes her students to be left with a sense of equanimity and joy that can transcend beyond the mat.
