This special evening is a fundraiser for scholarships established to support the educational pursuits of local Black students. Black Winter is hosted in partnership with Urban Intellectuals, Ald. Gabrielle Torina, State Rep. Maurice West II, Wabongo Leadership Council, and the Community Foundation of Northern Illinois (CFNIL). Money raised from tickets, and direct donations will support the scholarships listed below that are administered by CFNIL and Urban Intellectuals. The first $50,000 in donations toward CFNIL-administered scholarships will be matched to inspire your generosity. Attire: Black-Tie Suggested, Fabulous Expected During Black Winter, Enjoy: Striking a pose on the Black Carpet | Live Music | Custom Cocktails | Bountiful bites from local Black chefs | Remarks from and displays featuring local Black philanthropists, educators, & leaders | A magical, one-of-a-kind evening in the Rockford Art Museum Scholarships administered by CFNIL: Annie & Oscar Blackwell Scholarship - For African American female students from RPS205Ardis W. Cook Social Work Scholarship - For African American students pursuing a career in social workEra L. & Frances L. Walker Scholarship - For African American male students from RPS205 with a GPA of at least 2.9 and involvement in community serviceNate Martin "Scared Man Can't Win" Scholarship - For African American male students from RPS205 with a minimum GPA of 2.5 and involvement in community servicePi Gamma Omega Scholarship - African American female students from a high school in Winnebago County with a minimum GPA of 2.7, dedication to academic excellence, community service, and a zest for lifeTaus Community Endowment Scholarship - For African American male students from RPS205 with a GPA of at least 2.9 and involvement in community serviceScholarship administered by Urban Intellectuals: Urban Intellectuals Early College Drive (ECD) Scholarship - African American H.S. students in Winnebago County with a minimum GPA of 3.0 accumulative, dedication to academic excellence, community development. Focus: is to help AA students close the education and wealth gap by creating opportunities for students to complete HS with associates degree or trade certification from local community college.Please note: Every guest will need a ticket, and no tickets will be sold at the door.
